Chief Financial Officer
Strong numbers, strong ideas and strong leadership are the foundation of successful businesses. No one knows this better than Chief Financial Officer Lew Derbes. A licensed CPA, Lew boasts more than 21 years of experience in finance, accounting and auditing. At HRI, he handles two of the most critical aspects of the business. One includes vital internal functions, such as financial reporting, taxation compliance requirements and general accounting. The second key aspect of his role involves corporate and project financing and structuring.
Before joining HRI in 2014, Lew served as chief financial officer and treasurer for Stewart Enterprises, a publicly traded company based in New Orleans with more than 4,500 employees and $525 million in annual revenues. During his tenure at Stewart, he partnered with its CEO in negotiating an all-cash merger with Service Corporation International valued at $1.4 billion – a 48% premium over the volume weighted average trading price (VWAP).
He holds a B.A. in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and is a member of the New Orleans Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Louisiana Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He’s also an active member of his community, serving as treasurer, board member and executive committee member of Boys Hope Girls Hope New Orleans. Lew also has the honor of serving as the finance committee chair of his church, St. Ann Catholic, and as secretary of the New Orleans chapter of the Notre Dame Alumni Club.
