LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Construction has been completed on the first phase of a new mixed-income housing complex at the southeastern corner of 18th and Lake Streets.
Leasing applications are now underway with Mid-City Lofts expecting to welcome its first residents in early November.

“These first 46 homes demonstrate tangible progress in bringing to life the Choice Neighborhoods vision, following the successful demolition of Lloyd Oaks earlier this year and just ahead of the neighborhood’s critical infrastructure phase. Each step builds momentum toward a more resilient, connected, and thriving Mid-City,” said Josh Collen, President of HRI Communities.
The final product of the project will eventually result in over 500 mixed-income apartments within various mid-rise buildings and townhomes. This will also include new roads and utility infrastructure that will be built on the 38-acre site, such as the construction of new neighborhood-scale streetscapes, approximately 6,000 linear feet of new public rights of way (including roadways and sidewalks); sustainable stormwater management with new subsurface drainage, landscaping, lighting, and all new utilities.

But we’re just getting started. More housing, new streets, and much-needed quality-of-life improvements are on the way as we continue building toward a safer, stronger, and more connected city for everyone.”
There is also a plan to create two new parks that include a playground, public art and murals, community amenities, outdoor recreation space, and a pocket park featuring a kayak launch along the Contraband Bayou.
