2014 LOUISIANA LANDMARKS SOCIETY AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN HISTORIC PRESERVATION - BYWATER ARTS LOFTS
The Saenger and Civic theaters, a firehouse in Faubourg Marigny and the Rosa F. Keller Library & Community Center in Broadmoor are among 15 projects that the Louisiana Landmarks Society is saluting in its first Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation. The award-winning projects illustrate that the best way to preserve a historic building is to keep it in use, said Louisiana Landmarks Society Executive Director Walter Gallas.

The awards will be presented at a reception fundraiser on April 9 at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport terminal building.

2014 LIVABLE COMMUNITIES EXHIBIT
The Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects' exhibit on "Livable Communities for Virginia" opened last week at the Virginia Center for Architecture in Richmond. Two of Commonwealth Architects' projects were among only sixteen selected for the show. Our rehabilitations of the former Miller & Rhoads Department Store in Richmond and of the former Patrick Henry Hotel in Roanoke were featured in the exhibit.

These vibrant, mixed-use developments were recognized for their impact in preserving urban centers and their contributions to creating livable communities by recapturing the embedded energy in existing buildings, curbing sprawl and helping to create "a sense of place" in the community.

The exhibit will be on display at the Virginia Center for Architecture from January 16 to March 23. Stop by and join in the conversation... What makes a community livable?

2013 LOCUS LEADERSHIP AWARD
LOCUS is a national network of real estate developers and investors who advocate for sustainable, walkable urban development in America’s metropolitan areas. LOCUS members work to change federal and state policy on a number of issues related to smart growth development, in partnership with Smart Growth America.

HRI has been chosen to receive the 2013 LOCUS Leadership Award. This award honors a LOCUS’ member who has demonstrated commitment to smart growth development and furthering LOCUS’ mission. Last year the award was given to Forest City.

Whether it is the Hibernia Project in New Orleans, the King Edward project in downtown Jackson and many other projects throughout the country or HRI’s active engagement in the real estate industry on LOCUS’ behalf, HRI has set a high bar for LOCUS’ members and smart growth real estate developers across the country. HRI Properties is the top smart growth developer in the country and this award celebrates this achievement.
